VACATION DAY EIGHT: THE WATER’S GREEN, WEIRDLY WARM AND FULL OF FISH

24 Jul

Friday morning of vacation did not bring any exercise after Thursday’s late night! We were still up at a decent time though and headed to the beach. Zach had to do a beer trade a little south of where we were staying, so Josh, Hillary and I decided to ride with him and have him drop us off at a new beach for the day. It rained on us a little while we were driving and it looked awfully cloudy everywhere so we were worried our day might get rained out. We arrived at our beach for the day, Pompano beach, and didn’t have a drop the whole day. 🙂 Not only that we had lots of sunshine!

Here’s a glimpse at part of my beach life every day-

Journaling away to preserve all the memories of our trip. 🙂 Josh and Hillary wandered up the beach to get lunch and were gone for quite awhile so I alternated reading and being in the ocean until Zach arrived with our lunch.

He picked us up an Italian hoagie from this place that has the best reviews down there (Laspada’s I believe it was called) and I can see why!! We each ate half and everything from the meat to the fresh veggies to the homemade bread tasted so excellent. It didn’t hurt that I was super hungry by the time it arrived… We all 4 floated around in the water for awhile and got bumped by lots of fish swimming around. Hillary wasn’t too fond of that part.

The water at Pompano had a strange, greenish cast to it and was weirdly warm. It wasn’t a beach I would have to visit again but it was nice to go somewhere different. Hillary laid out for a bit while Zach, Josh and I walked down the beach to check out the sights (Josh managing to splash water all over some girl sitting in a chair by the ocean in the process…)

I found a dead fish (I didn’t pick this one up) and we stood for quite some time watching a pelican go fishing.

It was cool to watch him catch them! He’d gulp them down and then wiggle his little tail feathers like he was happy, haha. Before we left the beach Josh had to get pictures in his cheesehead because it “had never been to the Atlantic before”.

HA! This guy’s a hoot. He’s a huge Packers fan, clearly, and takes his cheesehead everywhere. We did the usual preparing for dinner routine and used Doug’s internet to scope out a dinner spot in Delray. We had two different places in mind to check out and with Hillary driving, we set out.

We drove past the first place and it looked pretty cool. The deal was sealed when we couldn’t even drive past the other place for all the cops and emergency vehicles out front! Okay then, Deck 84 it was. This place was neat!

We wanted a table outside by the water (of course) so we all sat in the bar area and had a drink while we waited.

Our wait took a little bit but it was well worth it when we got to sit out by lit up palm trees at dusk!

Zach got a seafood paella here and I got conch fritters and we shared our seafood feast that was quite delicious!

The guys are such hams, check them out –

They were driving us so crazy we had made them sit somewhere else in the bar and then on the same side of the table at dinner haha!

After we ate, Josh disappeared on some long phone call so Hillary, Zach and I took advantage of some cool surroundings to take pictures.

It was very beautiful out there at night!

When we finally found Josh again we headed back home where I used the internet to help Josh figure out his train schedule for the morning. He would be leaving early the next morning to take the train down to Miami to fly home and I couldn’t believe the first week of vacation was almost over! Of course I was still pretty thrilled that a whole ‘nother week lay ahead. We fell into bed knowing we all had an earrrrly wake up time the next day…
