THE GHOSTS OF CHRISTMAS EVE’S PAST

26 Dec

Monday Evening

*Sorry these posts are coming up late, there are just so many pictures to edit and everyone deserves a Christmas holiday right? Even bloggers? 🙂

I spent alllll afternoon working on my dessert. Even though I made it just last year, I forgot JUST how long it takes. The cooking instructions alone are time consuming from- bake for 1 hour, then leave in closed oven 45 minutes, then take out and cool for 1 hour, then refrigerate 4 hours or longer…and that doesn’t include the 2+ hours of hands on time preparing it to be cooked! Hopefully tomorrow when it’s served it will all be worth it. 🙂

Once I had spent the better part of the day cooking and then a good bit of time lazing, it was finally time to get ready for Christmas Eve! We always use Christmas Eve as a dress up event, mostly because the women of my family love any excuse for a party dress. 🙂 I thought I’d regale you with Christmas Eve’s past…

And now…2012. 🙂

We had our traditional Christmas Eve at Grandma’s house with all the traditional food included. Started off with a small salad, a few crackers and cheese and veggies.

Then it was time for one of my favorite meals of the year- beef stroganoff with rice!

Despite being pretty full after this I managed to make room for a little bit more later. 🙂 After dinner was picture taking time.

Then finally we exchanged gifts with Grandma and Larry.

After presents for one last Christmas tradition at Grandma’s we had the incredible strawberry sorbet that she makes every year.

This is so delicious and tastes just like Christmas! At this point though I was so full that I only had about 3/4 of it and then Zach polished it off. Next Zach and I went the two houses down to Mom and Dad’s (yes, two houses down 🙂 ) and changed into our comfy Christmas clothes.

Right away I found my Christmas cones that hide on the tree every year with money in them! A very good tradition indeed!

Then began the very long and wonderful gift exchange with my parents.

After loads of gifts (we all go a bit overboard) Zach and I got to open our big stockings filled with fun little things.

The last Christmas Eve tradition is reading our books “The Mouse before Christmas” and “Cowboy Christmas.”

It all makes me so happy. What a wonderful night and such a special Christmas Eve!
